I happened upon
Furnish Me Vintage's images for a Scupltra desk they had for sale and noticed something different than my
Broyhill Scupltra desk, the left side drawer on their's transforms into a small table. Whereas mine is just one solid drawer connected with dovetail joints, meaning there's no way to unfold it into a small side table. It's interesting to see a variation like this within the line, I wonder which version came first.
Interesting drawer feature. I've never seen one like that, and it would be interesting to know when the different versions came out. If I run across any information, I'll let you know.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dana! I always love learning a little more about the pieces I own.
ReplyDeleteNext time you're in Dallas, stop by our shop. You don't have to buy a thing. Just hang out a while and talk mid-century design. We always enjoy meeting new people, especially fellow Texans, who love it as much as we do.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the invite. Not sure the next time I'll be in Dallas, but I'll certainly plain on a trip to Mid2Mod when I'm there. I just love your stuff, you guys have a great eye.
ReplyDeleteIt's different because it isn't sculptra. It's a danish piece that is similar. The brasiliaconnection
ReplyDeleteMaybe, but one of the other photos is an image of the center drawer with the Broyhill Sculptra logo. So if it's not fully a Broyhill piece, either someone put a left-side drawer from another piece in a Sculptra or popped a Sculptra center drawer into another piece. If it's not fully a Sculptra, it's a pretty nice match.
ReplyDeleteI just purchased this version of the desk. It is definitely broyhill. It is in the garage as it needs to be refinished. I will try to find out more. Do you have any refinishing tips?
ReplyDeleteI'd love to know/hear/see anything you have on this version of the Broyhill Sculptra desk.
DeleteOurs was refinished by the shop that we bought it from, but Amy Wells (Mad Men set decorator) recommends Restor-A-Finish for vintage furniture, and I'm pretty sure you can trust her.
