This little treasure was recently found in and rescued from my grandfather's basement. It the model 12 Sunbeam Mixmaster and it still works.
The model 12 Sunbeam Mixmaster was made between 1957 and 1967 and was the first to feature 12 speeds.
It was available in chrome, turquoise, yellow, pink and white and is the last of the classic model Sunbeam Mixmaster mixers.
A more modern model of a Sunbeam Mixmaster is actually part of the Smithsonian's National Design Museum permanent collection. And the current Sunbeam Mixmaster mixer would fit pretty well in any mid-century modern kitchen.
What a beauty! My mom's was white. I've never seen a chrome one. Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteWhite would look great in a more classic mid-century kitchen. I could see why people would want that one back in the day. Chrome may have been too much back then.
DeleteOooo...nice! I don't have a chrome one yet...I don't think (seems like I did buy one sometime but haven't stumbled across is yet). Anyway, you need you some clear glass bowls for that! They are also hard to find. Don't pass them up!
ReplyDeleteWe actually found/have the bowls and the beaters too, they were still hidden in my grandfather's cabinet when I was snapping pics. He's one of those, "never throws anything away" grandpas. I'm honestly surprised that he didn't still have the manual.
DeleteI have my mom's from 1974 and I love it. She's a... umm... "collector" too but has been shipping it all to me in the last few years. She actually did have the books and everything. She took it in to be looked at before send it my way and they basically cleaned and oiled it and told her to have a nice life, lol. It works so well that it didn't need anything and probably never will. I used it the other day for a cheesecake batter and it purrs like a Mercedes. Love it.
ReplyDeleteCould you tell me about the hole in the top
DeleteIt is for a grinder attachment
Deletei just got one of these today with everything for 12 bucks at value village!! works wonderfully and i love it
ReplyDeleteNice, especially with the provenance and sentimental attachments (no pun intended). I have two, one traditional white and a teal one that's been completely overhauled and rivals my modern Kitchenaid. Recently picked up a Mixmaster Junior in chrome (handheld only) as a complement and to add some flair to my Pyrex collection. I wish I could have 20.
ReplyDeleteJust bought one for 12.00 at good will works great , but I have a question, what is the hole in the top for ? I have no paperwork
ReplyDeleteOrange juicer
DeleteI just found an original unit in the back of a kitchen closet. Hardly used. Wonder what the value is?
